Valle Aurelia Metro Station
The Valle Aurelia stop is on Line A (orange) of Rome’s metro, inaugurated in 1999. It’s a modern station with elevators and disability access. Line A connects directly with all of Rome’s major tourist attractions.
The metro runs from 5:30 AM to 11:30 PM (Fridays and Saturdays until 1:30 AM). A single ticket (BIT) costs €1.50 and is valid for 100 minutes on buses, trams, and one metro ride.

Just a 2-minute walk from our apartments, the Aura Shopping Center offers: Conad supermarket (open until 9 PM), pharmacy, bank, bars, restaurants, clothing shops, electronics, and various services. It’s the neighborhood’s reference point for grocery shopping and any daily needs.
Restaurants and Bars
Valle Aurelia has several bars and restaurants frequented by local Romans — you won’t find tourist traps here. For breakfast, local bars serve cornetto and cappuccino at Roman prices (€2-3). For lunch and dinner, there are pizzerias, trattorias, and restaurants with authentic Roman cuisine.
Parks and Green Spaces
The area is close to Villa Doria Pamphilj, Rome’s largest public park (184 hectares), reachable in 15 minutes on foot or by bus. Perfect for jogging, walks, and picnics away from traffic.
Neighborhood History
Valle Aurelia takes its name from Via Aurelia, one of the ancient Roman consular roads that connected Rome with the Tyrrhenian coast. The neighborhood developed in the post-war period as a residential area for Rome’s middle class. Until the 1960s, the area housed clay quarries and brick kilns — hence the popular nickname “the valley of the furnaces.”
Today Valle Aurelia is a modern, vibrant neighborhood with a mix of long-time residents and young families attracted by the good connections and more accessible prices compared to the center.
